Grommet (Ventilation Tube) Surgery

This is a common procedure performed for issues with ongoing fluid build up in the ears (Otitis Media with Effusion / Glue Ear) despite appropriate medical treatment. There are also other indications for this surgery including recurrent ear infections with or without complications. Dr Ram Sivasubramaniam will assess the you and organise for appropriate medical treatment, hearing assessment and facilitate the surgery accordingly.

Myringoplasty

Myringoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to repair a perforation (hole) in the eardrum (tympanic membrane). A damaged eardrum can lead to hearing loss, recurrent ear infections, and reduced protection of the middle ear. Myringoplasty aims to restore the integrity of the eardrum, improve hearing function, and reduce the risk of ongoing infection.

The procedure involves placing a small graft—typically using the patient’s own tissue or artificial grafts—to close the perforation and support natural healing. It is usually performed under general anaesthesia and tailored to the size and location of the perforation, as well as the overall health of the ear.

Dr Ram Sivasubramaniam will assess you and decide on the best option (endoscopic assisted / transcanal or post auricular) for access and surgical techniques.

Other ear surgeries

There are several other ear surgeries including mastoid and hearing rehabilitation procedures such as cochlear implantation. Dr Ram Sivasubramaniam will assess and organise these as appropriate for your ear health.
