Functional Septorhinoplasty

Functional Septorhinoplasty is a specialised surgical procedure performed to improve nasal function by correcting structural abnormalities within the nose. These may include a deviated septum, internal nasal valve collapse, or other anatomical variations that contribute to impaired airflow.

The procedure is tailored to each patient, with the primary aim of restoring effective nasal breathing while maintaining or, where appropriate, refining the external appearance of the nose.

Septorhinoplasty may be recommended for patients experiencing:

  • Persistent nasal obstruction or difficulty breathing
  • Structural deformities resulting from trauma or injury
  • Congenital nasal abnormalities affecting airflow
  • Functional concerns following previous nasal surgery (revision cases)

A comprehensive clinical assessment is undertaken to determine the underlying cause of symptoms and the most appropriate treatment approach. Dr Siva may perform endoscopy, rhinomanometry and imaging to decide on the best options. All management options, including surgical considerations and expected outcomes, will be explained to support informed decision making.

Surgical techniques are selected based on individual anatomical requirements. In some cases, structural support of the nose may be enhanced using cartilage grafts. These may be obtained from the patient (commonly costal cartilage) or from donor sources, depending on the complexity of the reconstruction. In most cases, the surgery will be combined with turbinoplasties and/or limited sinus surgery to facilitate better nasal airway.
